Seaweed extract can significantly increase grain yield and crop quality under normal irrigated conditions even when applied once at the grain-filling stage. In studies where seaweed extracts were used as foliar spray, there was a significant improvement in the grain yield, carbohydrate and protein content of crops over and above the control which received the recommended dose of fertilizers only. The studies showed improved nutrient uptake (N, P, K and S) with increase in grain yield and straw yield.
